This may sound silly, but apart from the CFS and being a bit lardy I am not actually doing to bad at the mo :-) Though that is a bit like saying that apart from the engine being blown up the car is a nice runner ;-) But I am working on it!

Hey Huggy!

Yupe, oil leaking from every seam, blown seals...
That describes me! Wink

Trying so hard to focus on loosing the weight I can't enjoy it so much (I am normally really good at that bit). But what has happened is that my appetite has dropped too. I noticed it first once I got into the swing of taking the Amla, but it was when I started with Green Tea Extract that there was a definite reduction of my appetite. I still can get hungry but I am doing better at refusing to give in, and after a short while the hunger drops down again. Not showing too much on the scales yet but the podge seems to be getting a little squidgier.

So you are a secret snacker then? Suppose it's just a matter of choosing something that is slow release rather than hitting the system with a big spike of sugar and fats?

Yes, generally, my before bed snack consists of porridge, or something with a bit of slow digesting bulk, but not
too much, just enough to keep the cramps away... Sad

Fitness training is a whole other game of course, but for weight loss just keeping active throughout the day is being shown in study after study to be surprisingly effective. Especially getting out of puff every so often. ScarletBloom reminded me of a study I read recently where we actually expel most of our fat loss when we breathe! I did a quick Google and there is a lot of info out there, but to give a taster I have included this link.

A brisk walk is really good for the waistline... I like to walk about 50 minutes, which gets me close to 3 miles,
I haven't been able to for a while due to a bum knee and sore back, but all the exercise and stretching I have been doing have
made it possible again, now for the weather....

(30-01-2016, 12:43 AM)Huggy Wrote:  Took a while but I have (mostly) broken my addiction with fizzy pop. It's those gorgeous white chocolate biscuits and proper Scottish shortcake that's my current downfall! I have had to ban them all from the house! But maan! They are soooo nice!

The loss of many pops ocurred a few years ago for me, as they contributed to the gut cramps. But the ginger ale and gatoraid have
been a sore loss for me.
My mother used to make a mean shortbread, which I learned from her, I usually make a batch at Christmas for family and friends.

(30-01-2016, 12:43 AM)Huggy Wrote:  Had to grin at your "proper" tea comment :-D Quite right too! I know our American cousins do try (bless um :-) But there is only one way to have a decent brew. (Heheheh... Wars have been started over less ;-)

Yup, North American tea: luke warm water with a teabag on the side. Wink
And they think they are doing us a favour making it. Tongue
Being diplomatic is tough, don't want the muskets to come out, that ended rather badly last time. But I have been tempted to dump tea into the harbour on occasion. Wink

Finally, after sweating away for four months, I can see some shrinkage in my waistline, (the high waist, not where a mans waist
is normally measured these days Wink ) My hips, which were shirnking and flattening out, are now building a little meat, though
I don't expect much. And my butt is going from the flatish male butt to a little more raised and rounded.
I don't expect to see a lot more until the pounds drop off some more and the stomach fat disappears, but the lines of the upper body
are rounding out a bit more as well, though there are now some funky fat deposits left behind, which I expect to go away
with more weight loss. Smile

Mine's got a terrible rumbling from the bottom and I think the big end has gone! ;-)

It's so frustrating when you really want to get on with some decent exercise and activity but the body says "nah". But good for you with working through the injury, and come the spring there's going to be no stopping you!

Hmm.... do I notice a hint of some Brit DNA lurking somewhere in your system? You do seem to be unusually knowledgeable and appreciative of the finer things? (and yes, I did notice your humour too ;-)

But now you have gone too far! Taunting me with funky fat deposits and a hint of a girlish waist! (stands with hands on hips and pouty bottom lip!)

Although I had to slow my NBE programme while I sorted out my stalled weight loss, I have definitely noticed a plumper butt starting to follow me around. And like you I am really interested to see how the curves develop as the fat goes down and the NBE kicks into higher gear. Now I know my diabetes is under control and how to keep it there too, I can fully shift my attention to getting rid of the lard and working on the good curves. Think we may both have a very interesting year ahead of us? :-)

Happy journeys

Yeah, I am slightly customized, there are a couple of standard showroom bits missing from the engine compartment. Wink

Yup, heavy duty Brit DNA, all 4 grandparents were imports from England. Big Grin

Most of my humour is courtesy of me mum...
And if it weren't for the diabetes, I would be very tempted to have some treacle tart right about now. :/

Another 25 -30 pounds and I shall taunt you with snaps!
But, via PM, I'm not too sure I want to display the built-in fur coat porn! Wink My wife is very fond of the fur, so, unfortunately
it has to stay...
The fat deposits are just (in my view) where the muscle underneath is tightening up, leaving roadways in the fat. Sad

Time to renew the life insurance, they will be much stricter now that the diabetes has been diagnosed...
But, looking forward to spring, shorts weather, but would still like a little snow, don't quite have my fill, yet.

Yeh, get the whole keeping wifey happy. Probably a good plan ;-)

Just a quickie, have you caught the recent info on citrus fruit, especially lemons? Very interesting and could be particularly useful for us?

Oh, and treacle tart? Ahhggh! What are you doing to me?!!!

Haven't caught any specific articles, but I have been reading some of the North American Diabetes sites, and
they praise up oranges, lemons and limes as useful (and refreshing) fruits to have in place of all the sugar, I agree, often
have a shot of lemon juice in my water. Smile

I know, all I can do is look and not touch now, my worst indulgence
is the occasional teaspoon of honey on my toast.... Dodgy

Had a quick look but couldn't find the links for you, sorry. Really having a foggy-head time of it at the mo :-(

But there are some posts on here somewhere including supporting info that basically says that adding citrus fruit (fresh if pos) has a quantifiable fat burning effect, and especially when included with Green Tea it really amps it up.

Just started doing it myself and think I have noticed a difference already. I now tend to take this combo when the hunger pangs start to rumble and within a few minutes the hunger quietens right down again. Oh, and it makes Green Tea a LOT more palatable too!

It's been a while but just had my latest diabetes review and blood tests and thought it might be helpful to bring things up to date.

Blood sugar is now 5.5 and stable (was 5.9).

Cholesterol is now 1.19 HDL (was 2.9, then 1.37)

So basically slap bang in the normal range.

The (new) doctor actually thought I may have been miss-diagnosed and went back to check my records. But there in black and white was a series of tests showing that the original diagnosis was correct.

Oh, and weight is now 217lb! (Was stuck at 228-230, gurr)

So the Amla and weight loss programme is working, I have also managed to work out a few extra tweaks which definitely seem to be helping too. Should anybody be interested.

Hope all is well and the gurly curves are coming on nicely :-)

Fantastic news! Keep it up!

I see my doctor on Monday, I have
a feeling my last A1c number will be up. :/

I keep hoping it was a misdiagnosis for me, but, my
doctor has usually been correct in the past...

OK, I'm envious, I have been plateaued for a couple of
months at 270, however that is a site lower
than 315... Sad

The curves are slowly shaping up, (interesting
to see a teeny bit of width added to the hips)
but won't be much more noticeable until some more
of the 'ol fat goes away, so, I am hitting
the gym this week, now that I have settled
my knees down (piriformis muscles pinching
nerves, which causes pain from the butt to the
ankles (and to the family jewels - OUCH!) at times,
got the problem from
overdoing the exercise bike a few years ago -
but have figured out how to make the issue stop)

Hey! That is absolutely brilliant news!! Seriously, well done!!!

Just no shortcake in celebration, ok? Yes, I know I am meanie ;-)

Know all about the plateauing. I seem to get stuck every 4-5lb and it takes a real effort to push on through. And what makes it worse is that it only seems to take a moment of weakness and it bounces back up a couple of lbs and will then take 4-5 days of being really disciplined to get back to where I started. :-(

Realise at 270 it can still feel a long way to go. But to drop from 315? MATE!! That's quite an achievement! Multiple brownie points are due.

I have been dragging my feet lately with the CFS and life stuff, but this weight loss method I have been using does seem to work. I really should get my mind straight and put something together as I am sure there are others who would find it helpful. I have mentioned most of it earlier in this post but to bullet point it... 1) No calories after 6.00pm. 2) Psyllium husk to help the tum work and support colon bacteria. 3) Amla to control the diabetes.

Oh, and exercise for weight loss is different than for fitness training. HIT works (3 x 20 second intense exercise bursts with 20 second rest intervals). Unfortunately with my CFS this is not possible for me, but it's not essential. As it's been shown that just being active and occasionally getting a little out of puff actually burns more calories and helps with health more than hitting the gym. And with your ouchies I wonder if that might be a better approach for you too?

Though running away from those giant white inflatable balls must be keeping you active too? ;-)

(Yes, I do get the inference with your signature. Your English roots are showing if you know that series ;-) Oh, did you know the setting for the "Village" was real and you can still go there?)

Think slim thoughts and keep happy.
