Horny Goat weed, PDE5 inhibitors, such as Viagra, might increase aromatase

#1

Ther have been in recent and earlier discussions some mentions of Horny Goat Weed and Icariin it contains. I found today an article which proposes that Icariin may promote aromatase. This might be useful, as aromatase converts Testosterone to Estrogens.

The article, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33776932/ , titled "Inhibition of Phosphodiesterase 5 Promotes the Aromatase-Mediated Estrogen Biosynthesis in Osteoblastic Cells by Activation of cGMP/PKG/SHP2 Pathway" contains this:

"Icariin and its analogs are found to be the inhibitors of PDE5 (15). We showed that the PDE5 inhibitors, sildenafil and icariin analogs, promote aromatase expression in human ovarian granulosa-like KGN cells by activating the cAMP/CREB pathway"

Of course, men don't have ovaries and ovarian cells. However, it seems that there is Estrogen generation also in other cells, such as Osteoblasts, which create bone tissue. Another related article mentions that:  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7995890/

Quite interesting, maybe worth looking closer. Increasing Estrogen for bigger boobs, and even getting better bones and better boners?

Hi Teddy, PDE4 actually works better... I looked at this year's ago

As always, thanks!

Hi TWN,

Hard to say with any certainty that green tea by itself can feminize. If you incorporated a PDE4 inhibitor it may peak my curiosity to run a cycle or two. But essentially inhibiting PDE4 boosts cAMP...which stimulates that estrogen pathway. Viagra is a PDE5 inhibitor, but doesn't stimulate cAMP like PDE4 does. PDE enzymes are classified into 12 families (aka as a superfamily of enzymes).

For example,
Quercetin (in green tea) is pro-aromatase, in the magnitude of 3-4 fold. It (quercetin) does this by stimulating Adenylyl Cyclase via the cAMP/PKA creb pathway, which I've explained in detail that this pathway an effective estrogen pathway, but let's consider cAMP/PKA creb pathway to be the best feminizing pathway to date.

However, this is what we know about Adenylyl Cyclase, it catalyzes the conversion of ATP (adenosine triphosphate, aka cellular energy source) into the second messenger known as cAMP(cyclic adenosine monophosphate). And this increase in estrogen-activates gene transcription...in other words new breast growth.
