Not sure if this belongs here, but then, not sure where it belongs, or even IF it belongs. I was sitting watching Chris, and sooo not feeling sorry for Chris Christie, when I absently-mindedly wondered what might go through my mind while under anesthesia tomorrow, and how weird my thoughts might be, when I had a preview.
Assuming we all have a basic understanding of AI (artificial intelligence), I wonder if, when the day comes that a viable self-functioning robot becomes possible, whether good old humankind would make them sexless, or attempt to divide the "species" as humans are? Would it matter? If we made them intelligent, would they even be satisfied to all be the same, or would they make their own attempt at becoming 2 (or more) genders, if you will. If they did try to separate themselves by "gender" what would be the purpose? Assuming they, (at least initially) couldn't procreate, would it be as some way to distinguish a superior "gender"? Or for some other reason?
Could this attempt at duplicating human separatism result in them becoming as screwed up in matters of gender as we humans are? How could we design this out of them, if we give them AI in the first place? Seems either we make semi-stupid intelligent robots, or give them the ability to doom themselves to repeating all the errors of our ways. Or, maybe they will come up with a solution where we haven't been intelligent enough to do so with our thousands of years of experience.
While the notion of robotic sex just doesn't do much for me, it conjures up some humorous images. (I wonder if someday we might see "robot porn"), If it ever comes down to it, I suspect that robots would go for males and females at the very least, with maybe an all-purpose type (true hermaphrodite) thrown in for both the others to enjoy. Myself, I doubt if they will ever have to deal with the "homosexual" issue, as I believe it will be easier for them to create penises and vaginas, than sphincters. But, who knows, they might take that as a challenge to be overcome.
