Progesterone Cream Quandary

#1

I discovered Progesterone cream very late in my journey. I was amazed at the boost it gave to my regimen and I immediately became a big advocate.

A couple of days ago, I ran across a collection of evidence both for and against the use of Progesterone for feminization.

A Comprehensive Review of the Potential of Progestogens for Enhancing Breast Development in Transfeminine People”
https://transfemscience.org/articles/pro...reast-dev/          from https://transfemscience.org/

There was a surprising range of disparate conclusions. Very interesting, but not really sure what to make of it.

Karen,

Read article and I’m really confused, what’s your opinion.  As I was about to start.

Pooky,

I wish that I knew the answer. I am equally confused.
I know that P cream really works for me. I guess the question is... is it safe?
Or rather, how safe is it? All of this NBE stuff carries risk, which many of us do not like to think about.

Waiting to hear Lotus chime in on this.

Lotus had just told me to add it to me regimen which I'm doing. After reading all of that it seems for every plus there is one that contradicts it but only in effects not so much in safety. Far too many people here have had good results from using it and I'm comfortable with that. There is an inherent risk for any of us taking any one or any combination of NBE supplements or using any product.

I think most of us are willing to accept that risk in hopes of reaching whatever goal or end we are in search of.

I use progesterone cream every so often, not consistently like I should, but I have had no ill side effects.

Hi Karen (and others),

The author of the article isn't a licensed doctor or scientist, the statements made are her own opinions on progesterone. So, take the information as such… information. Here's more info on Aly and others at Transfeminine Science
https://transfemscience.org/about/#aly

I consider these folks to be Citizen Scientists, like myself, but guess what? anyone can be a citizen scientist. Essentially, I could even call my Program thread the “Lotus X-thread personal Science Symposium… lol, but I don't. Imo, this scientific study from a PhD is the most helpful information not only to transwomen but to those seeking breast growth too.

Progesterone Is Important for Transgender Women’s Therapy—Applying Evidence for the Benefits of Progesterone in Ciswomen
https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/10...ogin=false

The writings in Aly's article on progesterone is defo TLBig GrinR, more so than I do. ? I, likewise yourself, came away confused after reading the article. Imho, part of the confusion is how the article is presented, if that particular article was broken down in 3 parts (e.g. list the pro’s and con’s and then give your own personal comments) it could be of benefit to the reader.

As an example, using research from some 89 years ago to formulate your position against using progesterone is well outdated considering the newer research within the last 10yrs.

From the article:
In addition to the preceding instances, Werner (1935) and Geschickter (1945) assessed the effects of progesterone on the breasts in cisgender women. Werner (1935) attempted to induce lactation in 8 surgically gonadectomized cisgender women with combinations of estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin, all in the form of crude extracts by injection. In two women who were given progesterone, he claimed that a marked increase in the size of the breasts beyond that with estrogen alone was observed. Additionally, he claimed that the breasts were more firm, the glandular tissue “more tortuous and nodular”, and the nipples more prominent. He was not successful in inducing lactation in the women in this study. The doses of hormones used were unclear as they were in the form of extracts, and were likely supraphysiological, potentially pregnancy-like due to the nature of the experiment. Werner’s study was also briefly discussed by Nelson (1936), among other citations. Geschickter (1945) observed lobuloalveolar growth on histological examination with administration of progesterone for 6 weeks to 2 months in one woman but not in another woman. However, the exterior physical changes of the breasts were not assessed or reported by this author and hence his findings are limitedly informative.

Also from the article:
Surprisingly, there have been few analogous studies of the effects of progestogens on the breasts in cisgender girls and women following the preceding reports and anecdotes. Although there are very little data on progestogens and breast growth in cisgender females, clinical studies are finally starting to look more closely at the specifics of hormonal medications, including progestogens, in terms of breast development in girls undergoing puberty induction (e.g., Rodari et al., 2023). As such, future studies may provide more insight on the subject of progestogens and breast development in cisgender females.

My takeaway, BN provides information to our members that can be discussed. If you were to ask this question on reddit it's likely you'd get skewered.  Rolleyes
