May not be "real" hunger pains, could be a similar feeling caused by changes in hormones within your body. If accompanied by the slightest hint of nausea then I would think that this may be the case. Maybe try some TUMS.
Just a thought. I have no backing for this, but I have had what feel like hunger pains with the hint of nausea caused by NBE. TUMs worked for me.
