I don't remember the site, but there is one that it's purpose is to show the vast differences of breasts (and aerolas) has pages and pages of photos. I mention that because "odd" is very subjective for breasts & aerolas.
You might also want to take another look at Tanner Stages. Nipples/aerola don't usually go flush with the rest of the breast until they are fully developed, so they may look "odd" if you opt to stop before then.
A good snug tank top will usually flatten things out.
That said, everyone is different, so what you want and what your body does might be two different things.
I know it wasn't really an answer, it was just my two cents.
