I never got into Tool too much. They kinda remind me of early Floyd, and for some reason, shades of McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra, even though that was more fusion oriented. 

Going back that far reminded me of my 8th grade science teacher used to play Emerson, Lake & Palmer during class. 

Someone mentioned Tangerine Dream. I haven’t heard that since the 80s. They kinda remind me of Kraftwerk. But all I remember of them is Trans Europe Express. Funny. All I remember about Tangerine Dream is Love on a Real Train. 

But, Deep Purple wasn’t something I was exposed to much growing up. I do remember them on the California Jam, and later on their hits. They seemed to be a much bigger band than just their hits. For some reason, I picture them in giant platform boots. LoL 

Speaking of which .... I had a pair of these.
