Seems the case for Wild Yam is not as good.
Quote:Wild yam root contains diosgenin, a plant-based substance that acts as a phytoestrogen
Quote:While diosgenin can be chemically converted into hormones in a laboratory setting, there's no evidence that the human body can perform this conversion
Quote:There's ongoing debate about the effectiveness of wild yam for hormonal imbalances, with some studies showing no significant impact on hormone levels or menopausal symptoms like hot flashes
And from the notes I have:
Quote:[[Wild yam]] (Dioscoria villosa) increased progesterone receptor binding in 20-30% of women, but appeared to suppress progesterone. Researchers concluded that diosgenin, the yam compound used to synthesize progesterone, did not convert to progesterone in the body.
And that it's discarded by the liver and you can't use it for breast growth.
This is interesting. I knew about the USP progesterone being lab-made from wild yam, which is therefore active and the body can use it.
But the dandelion root is a new thing for me.
