I forget to include my personal story in every one of these posts, I was seeking to answer the question regarding results, not motive
I'm 24, I'm not married and have no kids, like one real friend and never been close to family. I have very little to lose. I'm also attracted to men, and have a supportive boyfriend now, so it's not really the same situation as the OP, sorry.
I did come out to my father this weekend, he took it much better than I expected. Wants to go to therapy with me so he can be convinced this is the right choice, so that's positive.
It's much harder if you are married with kids, the risk of losing them is about 50/50 usually and should be taken into SERIOUS consideration.
