If it wasn't so expensive or if i wasn't so perpetually tight on funds i'd get my facial & lower body hair perma-removed.

Whether or not to kill off facial hair is just too major a decision point for me just yet..

I have written this before in other threads, but don't shave, get an epilator. I have used a Braun Silk-épil for about ten years and my breasts, pubes and bellr are now virtually permanently hairless. Obviously you won't get these results overnight but regrowth begins only after 10-14 days and the hair comes back softer and finer.

The problem with epilating, for me, is the development of ingrown hairs. They leave a little red dot on the skin that festers until either the body takes care of it, or you take steps to free the hair yourself.

I've made some progress against these nasties by vigorously exfoliating my skin with a bath scrubby until my skin turns red-pink.

Also, my hair still grows incredibly fast. I have to epilate every 4 days to stay hairless. I'm hoping that by adding an anti-androgen (thanks Lotus) to my program starting next week, I can start to slow down the growth of body hair.

I looked into laser for my beard last winter and the specialist I saw made it clear that taking medications that might slow down hair growth will add to the number of treatments I would need. Made sense at the time.

He also pointed out that I would probably need to finish the job with electrolysis because I have some red and blond hairs (and probably a few greys)

Thanks, Jessica, but could you elaborate on this? Why does slowing down hair growth add to the number of laser treatments needed? I would think the number of treatments would be the same, just spread out over a longer time period. Or, is it because you're required to go in for treatments on a fixed schedule so more treatments are done until your beard is gone for good?

The schedule was fixed, one session every four weeks until the beard was diminished to my satisfaction. He said 8-12 treatments. But from my experience with other body parts probably 12-15 treatments. And I enjoy the outdoors, so none from May through August. The cost was $200 a session. But there are so many laser treatment centers I bet you could find something cheaper. American Laser, now American Skincare used to offer an "appearance guarantee" for 2 years. Pay for the initial package and continue going for up to 2 years. I would see if that offer still exist.

Now, y'all don't be a hater, but I am naturally smooth (except for under arms, legs and pubes) over the entire rest of my body! Kinda like a Mexican Hairless, 'cept I'm a Scotch-Irish-Sioux Hairless!

I do keep my pubes groomed short, and my leg hair has gotten very thinned out... it's nice!
