Is your doctor TG friendly? That makes a big difference. I'm scheduled to see my new doc for my 6 mo. check up and HRT scrips next month. When I called for an appointment they asked what name and pronoun I wanted to be called by, so I said "Clara" and "she/her". I'll show up dressed in femme clothes (jeans, top, underwear), wig, and a little makeup.

Now if I was going to my old doctor who always knew me as male, yes, I would be nervous about what to say. I don't know why it should matter, but it does. Huh

Good luck, Andrea, you are on your way to a new life.

Hugs,

Clara

Andrea,
Just a suggestion...if you are uncomfortable approaching your personal doctor about this I quite understand. Perhaps you might go instead to a different doctor who specializes in hormonal and gender issues where you are not known and will not have the concern of coming out to someone you know? Chances are that your regular doctor will refer you to a specialist anyway. If you do as I suggest, you can always reveal that decision to your regular doctor later.
Just a thought.

That's an excellent suggestion, Sammie. It all depends on whether or not the community where Andrea lives is large enough to support a transgender specialist M.D. Look at the trouble our Eve is having finding a qualified doctor. It seems that they only exist in large metro areas.

Does your therapist have the names of some TG friendly doctors, Andrea?

In my area you need a referral from you reg doctor to get to see a specialist, and i am unsure if he is tg friendly or not. but to move forward I will have to do this.

Yes, Andrea, GD can only be relieved by correcting the sex/gender mismatch. There is no known 'cure' for cross-gender identity. It's not something that can be reprogrammed, period.

My wife and I had a long conversation with another TG and her wife who is struggling to accept her husband's need to transition. She asked my wife --who has reconciled herself to my need to transition-- how she does it. My wife replied that, of course she is saddened by the loss of her male mate, but understands that this is something that has to be if I'm to be rid of my anxiety and the psychological damage that it does to me.

If your mate falls ill or becomes disabled, do you end the relationship? Of course not, not if you love him. My wife explained that this upheaval in her life is far less of a problem than other possible life crises. Plus, there are many positives -- a happier, kinder, and more sensitive husband is often the result.

The next day, my trans friend told me how much talking to my wife help his wife progress toward accepting her transgender condition and realizing that it does not have to be seen as a threat to their marriage.

Keeping my fingers crossed that when I start hrt things will get better and my wife will like the new me. I am waiting to start the hrt to decide how far I will have to go. However right now i am looking at a more neutral gender. I have already started to let my hair grow out and I am wearing some female cloths that don't scream guy in girl cloths. Except maybe my yoga pats which I have wore out in public wih my wife and she has noticed that I have hips and a rounder but now wonder if that is from my year on pm.

Andrea,
Be careful about trying to predict how far you will go in your transition. My experience is that your goals will keep changing, so don't close any doors or burn any bridges along the way. It's a long journey, so enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells along the way.

Hugs,

Clara Smile
