What is it worth?

#1

Obviously, gender transition is not easy. In some ways it is outrageously tough, and tougher still according to challenges of an individual nature...age, finances, emotional health, existing physical features, family, responsibilities... Etc

To make this attractive in real terms, it must be something truly needed.

Of all the factors, one that stands out and is often neglected in planning is financial cost.
Here are some figures given by just one transwoman for her yet ongoing changes:

Electrolysis (still ongoing) 15,797.85
Airfare-Gas-Travel 4,244.35
Hotels 1,211.64
Incidentals 1,631.00
GRS 19,963.84
FFS 20,053.00
BA 6,100.00
TUMMY TUCK 8,991.00
Voice, Makeup,
Deportment Training 975.00
Therapy 1,505.00
Personal Care 2,651.50
Medical & Prescriptions 3,844.25
Wigs / Hair Systems 5,675.00
Clothing 11,021.00

TOTAL 103,664.43

It struck me as interesting that the highest amount on this list was that for FFS (Facial feminization Surgery)

So, in light of these costs, and everything else, how badly do you want it?

OMG.....I thought it would be even more. Wink

I know people who spent that kind of money on material things in the search for happiness, only to find the effects fleeting.

I know of people who spend that kind of money treating illness in an attempt to be whole again, but die anyway.

I know of people who spend that kind of money getting an education in the hopes of a better life, but end up working at a job that a high school grad could do.

If this T-girl's transition has been a success, it seems like a bargain to me.

Sammie that is interesting, especially the FFS. I wonder how the timeline for the medical procedures correlated with her start date ended up?.

IDK Lotus. I dont have that info. And of course this is simply one girls record. I am sure it differs greatly.

I did find myself wondering, though...lol...given my age and vanity...tee hee...whether if I had an extra $20 large sitting around I would choose to spend it on the vagina I am starting to think I really do want, or on the facelift I really do NEED!!!
LMAO

Can you put a price on happiness? i have said to those i have discussed it with all along i will do whatever it takes, i figured it would cost arround £30k here in europe for srs and ffs if i go privately however both should be available on the nhs at no cost to me, even beard removal is now covered!, i will still probably go private with the ffs (although dont actually want too much done, certainly no implants) but as long as the nhs are up to the job with srs (and i wont get a better vagina going private) i will use them where i can, i knew when i started i had 3 options, stay as i was and remain unhappy, take a low dose and live in limbo or transition, i chose transition Smile

It seems to me that this is one area in which late starters may have some advantages, though I am sure that our (J & I) priorities may change along the road. We're not aiming to make me a beauty queen, just comfortable with my real self and with a face that doesn't scare off the step-step-grandchildren. We may be being cheap, but for the amount of money and time involved, and considering how weak and slow my beard growth now is and how smooth and shadowless a shave I can easily get, we would at least for now pass on the electrolysis. Likewise, I can't see the FFS or the BA for me as essential or even all that desirable. I doubt that I'm a good candidate for GRS, although removal of surplus contents of the scrotum and some more superficial tidying up might be a useful and much less costly option. Tummy tucks are often much more invasive and problematic than they sound and are just the type of surgery that I've been recently seeking to avoid. All in all, we would hope to obtain results quite sufficient for our needs for only a fraction of the amount quoted in the example.

It may not be possible to put a price on happiness, and although a bit of indulgence is very nice on occasion (Were you saying something about single malt, Sammie?Big Grin), it usually makes me unhappy to spend far more on something than it is really worth to me.Dodgy

Be glad that you live in Nova Scotia, not New Brunswick.Dodgy

I'm glad your doctor visit went well.Smile I myself am going to our NP next Tuesday to see what she can do for me. I know that my province won't fund SRS and other services seem pretty thin on the ground.Rolleyes
