Anti-Androgens

Ok I've got one for you, do you re bet this post, the part I highlighted is very interesting. Like I said before, HSD (hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases) operates like a light switch, it's the pathway between steroids. Like how testosterone coverts to estradiol, or estriol to estradiol, this pathway access is as important as aromatase is to testosterone.

Regulates access of 5alpha-DHT to the androgen receptor.

Abstract
Pairs of hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases (HSDs) govern ligand access to steroid receptors in target tissues and act as molecular switches. By acting as reductases or oxidases, HSDs convert potent ligands into their cognate inactive metabolites or vice versa. This pre-receptor regulation of steroid hormone action may have profound effects on hormonal response. We have identified the HSDs responsible for regulating ligand access to the androgen receptor (AR) in human prostate. Type 3 3alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (aldo-keto reductase 1C2, aka-AKR acts solely as a reductase to convert 5alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a potent ligand for the AR (K(d)=10(-11)M for the AR), to the inactive androgen 3alpha-androstanediol (K(d)=10(-6)M for the AR); while RoDH like 3alpha-HSD (a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (SDR)) acts solely as an oxidase to convert 3alpha-androstanediol back to 5alpha-DHT. Our studies suggest that aldo-keto reductase (AKRs) and SDRs function as reductases and oxidases, respectively, to control ligand access to nuclear receptors.

Hi Monica,

I ordered off amazon, Iowa Select Herbs White Peony Extract

Same here, spanky (btw, thanks for the llama, lmao) found that last year. I've tried another brand of WP but prefer this brand. Although for whole herbs the mountain rose site looks interesting. Lovely11 shared this link.

Previously listed are some 5 ar foods that help prevent DHT, I'll list some herbs too.

Although 11 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11 beta-HSD/11b-HSD) doesn't have a direct relationship with testosterone, it's inhibition affects Leydig cells (the testes), it destroys them (cells).

Herbs with 11b HSD inhibitor activity

Licorice root
Green tea
Oregano
Cilantro
Celery
Flax
there's a few others.

QUERCETIN (11-beta HSD inhibitor @ 20%)
(Evening primrose oil) 5 ar inhibitor/11 B HSD inhibtor

3a-HSD isoforms may regulate ligand access to the androgen receptor (AR)

11b-HSD there are two isoforms: one which acts as an oxidase to eliminate active hormone; and the other which acts as a reductase to generate active hormone. It is hypothesized that the ability of HSDs to function as molecular switches and turn receptor occupancy `on' and `off' will apply to those HSDs that interconvert sex steroid hormones.

Did I mention cucumbers?, if you like them there excellent for NBE. Cucumbers are strong at inhibiting 5-ar like celery. (A blended drink is great too).

It was only a matter of time when this info would be found, enjoy.

Inhibition of steroid 5a-reductase by specific aliphatic unsaturated/fattyacid

fatty acids could function as endogenous inhibitors of 5a-reductase

The most potent was y-Linolenic acid, GLA-aka EPO-Evening Primrose Oil.

Thanks for this link. What do you all consider the best reishi to use?

Also, what doses for each? I'm on 2,000mg of PM per day. Budding the past few weeks, though nothing visible yet.

Remember these "on and off" switches?, part of this good news, the other part.....not so good.

----------------------

The good news....…

the reductase responsible for the conversion of estrone (a weak estrogen) to 17b-estradiol (a potent estrogen) is the estrogenic type 1 17b-HSD and is the `on' switch for the estrogen receptor (ER). The oxidase activities responsible for the reverse reaction and the inactivation of 17b-estradiol are the type 2 and type 4 17b-HSDs, and these function as the `off' switch for the ER.

Thus, the activity of these 17b-HSD isoforms may regulate the ligand occupancy of ERa and ERb and their trans- activation in estrogen target tissues (Wu et al., 1993; Andersson, 1995; Labrie et al., 1997; 2000).

Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases and pre-receptor regulation of steroid hormone action http://humupd.oxfordjournals.org/content...3.full.pdf

---------------------------------

The not so good news.....

Phytoestrogens inhibit human 17b-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 5

(07-02-2015, 07:37 PM)Lotus Wrote:  This is a bit over simplified but Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenases (HSDs) act like a gate-keeper just before steroids (hormones) bind to receptors (synthesis). Furthermore, these "gate-keepers" can flip the switch (a light switch) on/off to allow passage to the cell receptors. So in essence, they can inhibit or promote hormone activity. Finding a new class of HSD's is the next step, Aldo-keto reductases (AKRs) can help us get there.
