Does Anyone Have Experience with DIM?

#11

I have been on PM over a year now, does that mean I should be worried about this and take steps?
Or is it primarily those on hormones?
Thanks Ella and Lotus

I've been taking DiM almost since starting PM.... You don't know if it really helps but if you go to the medical websites, they claim asparagus and broccoli has anti cancer properties... Guess what that is... ya, DiM.

I prefer that approach too, cruciferous vegg. only problem with DIM is if you have a dodgy thyroid. its a potential goitergenic? but on the flip side you don't get a fraction of goodness out of fruit and veg these days so are we even getting enough out of food? Sad

Your right there ia. It might not reduce estrogens rather shift the focus to the good kind so to speak. Why the eff aren't i using it then! And of course I forgot men actually get BC too .
What I wondered though is estradiol responsible for breast growth ? If so by taking dim are we cancelling out our efforts?
I should know which estrogens is resp for growth .. @slapsownhandsoiaboydoesnthavetodoitforme@

Ellacraig asks a very good question. Does DIM conversion remove the estrogen molecule that is responsible for breast growth? I am not clear on this point. Any help?

From what I looked at, Lotus has a better grasp, it does to some degree. In that it does cut down on one of the major Estrogens, but it's the one that is related to Breast Cancer. ( the bad E ), but does not interfere with the other E's.

From what I understand from my looking around and what I have learned from Lotus, there are 3 forms of Estrogens.

It might help if Lotus explained that diagram.

Lotus Wrote:4a-OH estrone and 16a-OH estrone are carcinogenic, dim helps shift these dangerous metabolites out of the system. Increase estrogen metabolism, this is a preventive step. The longer estrogens hang around increases the likelihood of future problems.

As he said above, and also in the diagram, the weaker links represents the suppression of the bad estrogens. DiM also helps flush the abundance of un used Estrogens to prevent them from switching on cancer cells.

Thanks iaboy, Alexis and all, here's a simplified version of what DIM dues, I mean does. Wink

DIM (diindolylmethane) is a natural organic compound that promotes healthy estrogen metabolism in men and women as well as increasing the body’s natural ability to burn fat. DIM is a phytochemical naturally found in small amounts in cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli and that has subsequently been synthesized into a convenient, easy-to-swallow pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplement.

Supplementation of DIM promotes the effective metabolism of estrogen by helping the body turn estradiol into helpful metabolites. These helpful metabolites can aid the body in resisting uncontrolled cell growth and the formation of tumors, effect bone health, and promote weight loss by encouraging healthy levels of the hormones that activate enzymes to stimulate lipolysis—the release of stored fat. Properly balanced estrogen levels are instrumental in general hormonal health and well-being.

Dim is a strong inhibitor of DHT and prostate cancer.

Wouldn't standing up a lot also inhibit prostrate cancer? Tongue
