Herbal Viagra

#1

I was wondering if there was a general concencous on dealing with ED while on PM. I've seen mention of Maca, though I'm kinda confused about 'all it's uses'. I've seen Butea Superba, but have also read some warnings. I've heard about Honry Goat, but have only seen it sold individually at gas stations. I've used Libigrow & ManUp many times, but it's $5/pill individually. Plus, Libigrow & ManUp were targeted by the FDA for having similar ingredients to Viagra. I do like viagra, but my insurance doesn't cover it.

So I was hoping for some input, recommendations & reviews.

I like what's happening up top, but I'm concerned about performance, atrophy, happy wife, etc.

Thanks

Zinc, L Arginine, and if you're going to bother with HGW, look for one with a high icariin content (like well north of 20%).

There's some research that says that Pycnogenol with L Arginine helps, but there's other research that says that that research needs further research. Lol

Icariin is a weak PDE5 inhibitor, and although it acts in a similar way as Viagra, it's no where near as effective.

All that is above my head & I was hoping for a brand or specific product to try. I'm not that good at deciphering chemicals. Thank you.

I sell the longest running, leading brand of what could be considered the herbal version of what you're looking for, but I wouldn't foist that on you if you're trying to save money (as it's not cheap).

I don't condone it, but perhaps "generics" of what you know works might be an option.

Yohimbe root extract is a vasodiolator (opens blood vessels wider), but caution should be used with it.

also , Swansons makes a topical arginine gel, which also is a vasodiolator. I believe Amazon carries it.

you would basically want something to keep blood flowing to that area.

avoid all things that will increase norenephrine, which is a vasoconstrictor, it will basically shrink your blood vessels smaller.

Horny Goat weed is pro-aromatase---

Icariin from Epimedium brevicornum Maxim promotes the biosynthesis of estrogen by aromatase (CYP19).

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE:
Epimedium brevicornum Maxim has long been used for the treatment of osteoporosis in China and other Asian countries. However, the mechanism behind the antiosteoporotic activity of this medicinal plant is not fully understood.
AIM OF THE STUDY:
The present study was designed to investigate the effects of five widely used antiosteoporotic medicinal plants (Epimedium brevicornum, Cuscuta chinensis, Rhizoma drynariae, Polygonum multiflorum, and Ligustrum lucidum) on the production of estrogen, and identify the bioactive compounds responsible for the estrogen biosynthesis-promoting effect.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
Human ovarian granulosa-like KGN cells were used to evaluate estrogen biosynthesis, and the production of 17β-estradiol was quantified by a magnetic particle-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. Further, the mRNA expression of aromatase was determined by a quantitative real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and the protein expression of aromatase was detected by western blotting. The activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in rat osteoblastic UMR-106 cells was measured using p-nitrophenyl sodium phosphate assay.
RESULTS:
Among the 5 antiosteoporotic medicinal plants, the extract of Epimedium brevicornum was found to significantly promote estrogen biosynthesis in KGN cells. Icariin, the major compound in Epimedium brevicornum, was identified to be the active compound for the estrogen biosynthesis-promoting effect. Icariin promoted estrogen biosynthesis in KGN cells in a concentration- and time-dependant manner and enhanced the mRNA and protein expressions of aromatase, which is the only enzyme for the conversion of androgens to estrogens in vertebrates. Further study showed that icariin also promoted estrogen biosynthesis and ALP activity in osteoblastic UMR-106 cells.
CONCLUSIONS:
These results show that the promotion of estrogen biosynthesis is a novel effect of Epimedium brevicornum, and icariin could be utilized for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

Keeping in mind it's also a weak phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor and mimics testosterone in rats.

Gym rats no doubt. Smile

Thank you for the replies.

I have to say that I sincerely appreciate the effort & study that many of you put into NBE, but once the chemical studies talk start, I can't even follow the conversation. I am not very good at all with deciphering chemicals & reading labels for analysis.

I'm an aircraft mechanic, not a pharmacist :-)

I'm taking it that Yohimba is bad & Horny Goat Weed is good.

I've read some things about Maca, but once again when y'all go all doctor-talk, my eyes start rolling backwards.

For my "one-stop-shop", and I do know YMMV, is the "General concencous" to go with HGW? And then there's the HGW+MACA, too.

As I mentioned before, I used to use Libigrow often with great success, but it can cost $10 a pill.

Thanks ... Still feeling confused. LoL
