Well, I went....... Not really sure what I expected, maybe a Voodoo Priestess, human skulls saying "Davy Jones was Here".
The appointment was slated for about an hour. Once I got in to see him, till the time I walked out of the clinic was about 1hr 20mins. I would say, other than the normal B/P, weighing in by the nurse... The doctor asked me TONS of questions. Ranging from who all have I "outed" myself to, did I have at least their support or understanding? To, what my ultimate goal was as far as feminization and what was my core belief in how I truly felt?
Wow, didn't know I had another therapist. LOL.... But I think I understand the grilling I got from him..
Iowa is an "Informed Consent" state, but this doctor conforms to the care and guidelines set up for the LGBT Community. He is himself, gay, and does an awful lot of outreach for the community... So, he puts his money and time where his mouth is....
He wants to chat with my Therapist and my regular M.D.. He says so he feels comfortable with the fact that there is a window of safety for hormones to be used, and that I am truly o.k. in making this commitment. I totally get that, and feel more comfortable that he may just have my best interest at heart. That he is just NOT filling a much needed niche to make money. I of course sign the necessary docs for him to consult with the therapist and my doctor.
I told him that I was diagnosed with Gynecomastia about 6 - 7 yrs ago, and I decided that I was going to help Mother Nature out the best I could and have been doing herbs from SP to PM and even for a short time have used Bi-Estro Cream. I also told him that I know that using a lot of "Over the Counter" drugs and such was a crap shoot health wise and money wise. And that was the primary reason for me seeking professional help. Not only for the feminization, but mentally to make sure that I was just not board or doing something cause it was Taboo. But I also explained I have been cross dressing for 1/2 of my life. And that if he felt he couldn't help, I would understand but I would still pursue and stay the course on DIY Feminization.
He says he will get in touch with me as soon as he confer's with my therapist and doctor. I told him that I hoped it is sooner than later.
Overall..... It was a decent experience... My thoughts are I think I have a 50- 50 chance of getting HRT, but who knows, right. Well the Gender Doctor will know. LOL
