Today I started taking PM for the first time and rather than starting off with 1 x 500mg cap daily, I split the cap so it's about 2 x 250mg daily (morn and eve). Do you think this a better option  or should I just take 1 x500mg cap daily for the first week or two?

I already take Reishi 1 x500mg cap and 3 cups of spearmint tea daily.

Usually 500mg/day for the first week are fine to see if you have any adverse reaction.
After that, my suggestion is to stick to the dose advised on the pack.

I just ordered the same (London here) and I used them in the past, they were working fine.
The caps contain pure PM powder, so it's easier to calculate the amounts.
One week at 500mg/day should reveal any intolerances.
From then on, the advised dosage is 2 caps per day (one AM, one PM) and I found that it work for me. You shouldn't expect a super fast development at that rate, but in about 2 or 3 months you should go through budding.
Many people on this site upped the dose to 2000 or 3000 mg/day (4 to 6 caps) but that doesn't always translate to fastest growth. So, start with 1000mg/day (apart from week 1) and see if you have any problems. I also always suggest to do 3 weeks on, 1 week off, to cleanse hormone receptors.

As for dosage, I don't think there is any point in splitting one capsule, just take the one for the first weeek or so and then go up to 2.
Personally I found that I needed to go up to 4, in stages, to get results and that took 3 months almost to the day to get budding. ( FWIW, 5 or 6 a day results in the headache from hell that no painkillers can shift!)
