51,000 albums. Holy cow. That’s amazing.

I used to be a DJ 40 years ago. I used to have a large collection. I got rid of most of them through many moves when CD’s became a thing. I wish I held onto them, now. I did bring back about 100 albums from a recent visit to my folks. I’d like to get back into records, tbh.

But my favorite music is from the 70s. My wife fronted bands for over 30 years, so 70s music is big in our household. I play guitar, so I’m always playing something from that era. Be it blues rock from bands like Aerosmith, or top 40 album tunes from then.

I grew up hearing classic country & gospel bluegrass, so those are high on the list, too.

Hank Williams iii is my favorite current artist from the last 20 years. I *love* me some Hank 3 !!!

I don’t watch TV or movies, and haven’t in over 20 years, so that’s out.

Fun old thread, here.

51,000 Albums. Wow!

Not a favorite, just one of those I'm aware of in the back of mind from eons ago that could be a theme song for...

Funny, first time I ever checked the lyrics for this song. Pretty silly stuff.

If you've read this far, then here's Lords Of Acids best tune: Wink

Any TOOL fans?, I am. They released Fear inoculum in 2019, this song (my fav) "7empest"  starts with you being lulled in typical Tool (ala 46 & 2) fashion and BAM!...your hit with a guitar rift reminiscent of TOOL of old.

I never got into Tool too much. They kinda remind me of early Floyd, and for some reason, shades of McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra, even though that was more fusion oriented.

Going back that far reminded me of my 8th grade science teacher used to play Emerson, Lake & Palmer during class.

Someone mentioned Tangerine Dream. I haven’t heard that since the 80s. They kinda remind me of Kraftwerk. But all I remember of them is Trans Europe Express. Funny. All I remember about Tangerine Dream is Love on a Real Train.

But, Deep Purple wasn’t something I was exposed to much growing up. I do remember them on the California Jam, and later on their hits. They seemed to be a much bigger band than just their hits. For some reason, I picture them in giant platform boots. LoL

Speaking of which .... I had a pair of these.

You'll find yourself standing your ground and fightin' when you oughtta run, speakin' out when you oughtta keep your mouth shut, doin' things that seem wrong to a lot of people but you'll do them all the same. You're gonna spend the rest of your life getting' up one more time when you're knocked down, so you better start gettin' used to it.

Favorite movie, The Right Stuff. I’ve never looked up to an unrelated man like the way I did Chuck Yeager. 2nd favorite movie is Crossroads (1986). 3rd, Amadeus. Honorable Mention: Gone With The Wind.

But, I turned away from TV/Movies 20 years ago. I stopped watching sports 10 years ago.

I like Country from the 80s & early 90s, but mainly just the hit makers. I could rattle off the Country Billboard Collection from the late 50s to middle 70s by heart. My first memories of music as a child besides gospel, was Hank Sr., followed by Merle Haggard. I’m a huge Osborne Brother Bluegrass fan. Their harmonies are amazing.

At one point I had the entire LP collection of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd. Being from the South I of course love Skynyrd, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Allman Brothers, etc.

I don’t keep quotes fresh in my brain. They always seem to pop up in times of need, when something triggers a memory. My latest favorite quote however is from my latest obsession, Flannery O’Connor. I do have a deep love of music, I play my guitar daily. My wife had an extensive musical background and roots, going through her mother, grandparents and beyond. I, however, consider myself a book nerd.

We have well over a thousand books in the house on two wall to wall, floor to ceiling custom built book cases. I turned our traditional dining room into a den/study/library/man cave of sorts/elegant office. I put in another full wall case, myself. I filled it, err ... crammed it, full of historical books. While I rarely read, I consider myself a collector of important books. Most of these center around Georgia. While Ive read less than 10% of my collection, one thing I enjoy doing is knowing everything there is to know about the person who wrote it. The reason for the books, the cliff notes readers digest version of the book, and any side by-line associated with the story, before after or another important connection. That might seem odd, but I like the story behind the story. As well as the story, itself.

Anyway, I mentioned a quote by Flannery O’Connor .... I have one of her books I bought years ago. I recently reacquainted myself with it and discovered who she really was. I initially bought the book for one story contained within, and then I erroneously heard a review of her work that I didn’t approve of at the time and I just shelved it away. Only recently did I learn the truth about her and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Just look up the prices of the books that were published in her lifetime from say, 1950 to when she died in 1964. They’re stupid expensive. I just received today Mystery and Manners published a year after her death and I was lucky to get it for a good price. Her, “Complete Stories” from 1971 are very expensive too. I think I got the only hardcover under $30.

There was recently a bio-pic movie made about her that will be shown on public broadcasting in March. For something like this, I’ll have to break my rule about watching TV. I did see a YouTube clip of the movie where the actor Tommy Lee Jones said, “I’ve read everything she’s ever written”. She died in 1964 at the age of 39 from complications from Lupus.

I’m hoping to go visit her home place in Milledgeville, GA soon. It’s only about two hours south of here. Anyway .... back to the quote.

“The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it”. - Flannery O’Connor

Love music, have lost music, mourned music and now (thankfully) rekindling my love of it.
Let me explain......
I alwys remember my mam playng music when I was a nipper usually Beatles and whatever was in the charts (late 60's/early70's). This is what got me into music and as grew up steadily falling your all genres, from the simple 3-minute pop stuff, 2-tone, scar, rock, electronica, mod, new wave, etc etc.
Basically, didn't matter what genre it was if I like the tune, or the lyrics I liked, simple as that.
Lots of friends followed specific bands and fashions but I just mixed up the lot, my mam always said I was never one for following the crowd Smile
Throughout my adult life the love has grown from strength to strength, the fact that music takes you on a journey through so many emotions.
Then a few years ago in just a few days I was suddenly and profoundly deaf!
Sound gone completely from my life!
I now have a cochlear implant so now have a sense of hearing, but it has been a very long and very steep uphill learning curve, having to relearn the art of listening to a new mono-electronic undertone world I now find myself in.
I gave up on music, it was devastating to lose something to close to me.
Thankfully, I am now managing to rediscover a new found enjoyment from some of my music, many old favourites just don't sound the same, some of the old ok ones are turning into new faves. The simple fact music will never be the same for me but its finding that new way of enjoying what I can hear.
So my list really should be two, pre & post deafness, but I''l just list them as i think of them, so in no particular order, hear goes, enjoy the memoriesSmile

Favorite-I can't get enough of lately?,
Pink Floyd - Division Bell, Momentary Lapse of Reason, Echoes, DoftM, Pulse (lots of tracks of each)
Propaganda - Secret Wish, Wishful thinking (Jewel, Dream with a dream, Sorry for Laughing)

Chicane - Best of ( Don't give up {aptly could be said is my song}, Bruised water, Stoned in love, Saltwater)
Lone Justice - Shelter (Wheels, I found love)
Deacon Blue - Raintown (Wages day, Fergus sings the blues)
Queen - A night at the opera ('39, I'm in love with my car)
ZZ Top - Eliminator (Got me under pressure, Give me all your lovin', Legs)
Yves larock - (Rise up)
Marillion Script for a jester's tear (Garden Party) Fugazi (Assassing, Fugazi)
Ian Van Dahl - (Castles in the sky)
The Beat - (Mirror in the bathroom, too nice to talk to)

What’s a ma’am and a nipper?

That’s a scary thought to lose your hearing. I hope that implant has helped.

I never liked Echoes. I just couldn’t get into it. Anything prior to Dark Side of the Moon, really. However, I wore out Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals & The Wall. I spent a good year and a half analyzing The Wall. I mean, typing out the lyrics and cross referencing things contained with. Basic research prior to the internet was slow. LoL

I always was amazed that The Animals recorded The House of the Rising Sun in one take.
