Muscle Weakness and Soreness After Stoppping

#1

Hi,
I was using Fenugreek and Saw Palmetto on and off for about 1 1/2 years. I stopped taking them in May. In June, I started to get muscle weakness and soreness which I have had on and off since then. After going to the doctor, they determined it was most likely a virus. They did a bunch of bloodwork and everything came back normal. No Lyme Disease, mono, epstein barr, etc.

Is it possible that the fenugreek and saw palmetto could have caused this?

Could it also be the case that somebody becomes very tired? Last year I stopped now and then with SP and Hops but got very tired.

Since taking hops I have been increasingly tired if you Google estrogen raised effect or symptoms in males you will find fatigue and muscle atrophy is key signs

Back to the OP's question....

FG is weak phytoestrogen at best. I seriously doubt you would feel any effects a month after stopping and none while taking them. I think it far more likely that they missed something. Lime disease is VERY easily mis-diagnosed especially some time after the initial infection. The spirochette can be very hard to isolate. Did your doc also look at thyroid function? Thyroid disease can cause a variety of muscle and joint aches as well energy level issues. Just a thought.

Well...I have gone to a primary care doctor and a rheumatologist. Given that lyme is so hard to diagnose, I was put on antibiotics for a few weeks to see if there was any improvement. Unfortunately, I didn't feel any different. Believe it or not, I actually started to feel better once I stopped the antibiotics. They did test the thyroid, and a bunch of other things (13 vials of blood worth). Everything came back normal. All 4 tests for lyme were negative (both ELISA and Western Blot). I know sometimes the test initially comes up negative, but after 6 months you would think it would turn positive. Also, the people I talked to say that the symptoms get worse over time. My symptoms have actually improved.

I agree that it seems bizarre to start having symptoms after stopping the herbs. Just figured I'd ask everyone here. Also, I seem to have got Schamberg's Disease on my legs. That started a few months before the muscle weakness and soreness. Here is a description about it:

I'm hoping 2013 will be a better year. LOL.

Hi Christin
I had similar experience after using PM for a short period around 5 years ago - muscle loss, muscle pains, muscle cramps, tiredness and lack of energy. Also suffered from depression at times. After all of the blood tests at my GP I was then referred to a muscle specialist who I saw for 2 years. Despite a MRI scan and loads more blood tests he never did find out what the cause was. Gradually the symptoms became less severe. Although I never regained the muscle mass the rest of the symptoms have thankfully regressed and have been back to normal (well for me) for around 2 years. Best wishes.

as odd as it might seem I was having Weakness and Muscle soreness "Before" I started NBE and it ended 2 days after I started taking PM....

If I go off of PM for more than 2 weeks the Weakness and Soreness returns.

Perhaps the pm fulfills a nutrient deficiency that is causing you to have weak and sore muscles?

I was actually thinking of trying PM instead. What dose were you taking? I was thinking of 1000-1500 to start and go up to 2500mg a day. Also, did you take SP with it too?
