How about this for an idea: We add a thread showing pictures of ourselves en femme. I think Flame once did a shot of herself (neck down) in a lovely black dress, hose, and heels. It was really nice. Samantha has posted photos showing her fashion sense, too.

Just a wild thought.

Well, I have on order an experimental starter wig. One of my hangups is that I have never been keen on drastic hair colour changes. There are too many fake blondes in this world, and it's a regular subject that comes up with my wife. My attitude is that if she is lucky enough still to have most of her natural hair colour at 75, rejoice in it, don't change it. Surprisingly, I rather fancy her hairdresser has told her something similar. So to be true to my principles I had to find a suitably greying wig, which limits the available choices at the price I'm prepared to pay for an experiment. One thing that's held me back from acquiring a bra to date is difficulty in working out the correct size, and I suspect thereafter in actually finding suitable bras of that size. I don't think that my compulsion is yet near the level to get me to a professional fitter, so I may seek advice in our main forum.

As for a dress show, that's a great idea, but if I am ever to reach an adequate stage of dress to participate, it will probably take me a long time. But as you might say, who knows?

Annabel - in line with what you are saying...two tips I have learned with age. One, shorter hair styles generally are more flattering for us older gals (your results may differ, of course). There is a good reason why so many older women steer clear of the luxuriously, long styles we all find so alluring. I used to wear the long ones quite readily, and still do on occasion, but rarely any more.
The other thing is...for your own ego, use some makeup before donning the wig. Anytime I place a wig on my head without makeup I scare myself silly. but with some decent makeup, everything changes. Women really do know what they are doing!

Annabel, sweetheart, you are further along the gender bender curve than I. I haven't gotten into wigs yet, although I've bounced the idea around in my head, and threw out the idea to the missus. She was strangely dismissive of the idea.

If I do buy a wig some day, a lot of thought will have gone into it. The only reason I would add that particular accoutrement to my femme stash is to see how close I could come to passing as woman in public. Hmmmm. That might be why DW is cool to the idea.

Anyways, I hear you. I have to face the fact that I'm getting rather 'long in the tooth', so not any wig will do.

It's odd....I was thinking the other night how I need to go shopping for some shoes. Yeah I'm aware of how cliche that is, anyways....I have no clue what to aim for. I want something andro enough to not get THAT werid of looks, but girly enough to satisfy whatever is driving me to go shopping for shoes.

Ok, have you looked at Zappos? Lots of styles there, fast shipping and a solid return policy. How dressy? Are we talking about full on female or still androgynous? If the latter, maybe a pair of chelsea boots you can tuck your jeans into? Or a womens version of a male style...lace up boots are trendy right now and come in versions for both genders. If more dressy still, well, penny loafers are neutral and worn by all, but I sense they may be too preppy for you? How about something from Sperry?
