Can PM be addictive ?

#1

So, how addictive can PM be?

I have dropped my PM dosage down to a maintenance level, but yesterday rushing around in the morning I missed my dose. Not a problem, I took 250mg PM extract and 40 drops of White Peony extract in the evening when I got home. I swear, 15 minutes later I felt like I was tripping. to make matters worse everywhere I looked I could see ferris wheels spinning around ? Surely, this is not normal ?

I took the same amount this morning, and, I feel fine ?

Hello.

I think the answer to your question is yes and no.

I doubt pm is physically addicting, as others and myself have gone cold turkey from pm for several weeks or more. However, can pm be addicting on a psychological level because of the improvement in well-being that it may bring about? Possibly. I think a number of members report getting grumpy and short-tempered when abstaining from pm. Others say their interest in crossdressing or porn returns.

As far as seeing ferris wheels, it may just be a odd one-time aberration. We do have one member who saw a rhino when she went cold-turkey with pm. Big Grin

[giggles] OMG, we need to go on a safari for rhino's! Rhino's are like trolls, how does one get rid of them?

Regarding the OP, I agree with Flamesabers. I don't think PM is physically addictive but it is emotionally / mentally addictive. I'm much more patient with other people when I'm on it, I can control my sex drive and I have a better self image just to name a few. Who knows what long term , physical health benefits I'm getting from my regime. I wont be discontinuing mine unless it's proven to be detrimental ferris wheels or not.

Unfortunately, rhinos are an endangered species; trolls are not! Now if we could link trolls in some way to an aphrodisiac, our troubles would be greatly reduced.....lol.

Not Any more addictive than if you were on HRT.

For me PM lessens the effects of GD, Which Returns with a vengeance When I go off PM for more than 3 days.

It's possible for a PM addiction to develop in both the psychological and physiological areas, but it's highly unlikely. The chemical activity of PM isn't conducive to addiction.

However, since PM is hormonal, you can experience "withdrawal" both starting amd stopping if it's sudden. The body reacts poorly to quick chemical changes, especially relating to the endocrine system. Lightheadedness, ringing of the ears, migraines, etc. are all common as the body adjusts.

Titration (slowly increasing and decreasing dose) is a good idea for a lot of herbs and medications, and it's stressed a lot in prescribed HRT regimes. Probably a good idea for PM as well.

My immediate thought was "YES!" but as others have indicated, it's more nuanced than that.

Is it chemically addictive like opium or crystal meth? No, probably not for the vast majority of humans on the planet.

Can extended use of PM (or other phyto/synth estrogens) over time change how one feels and when stopped make one miss that feeling and resume taking it? Again, not for a lot of people, but for some (looks at the active members of this part of BN and in the mirror) the answer is a definite yes.

For me swapping T for E or to a lesser extent suppressing T has given me a state of calm I didn't know I could attain.

Overall the way I would class it is, it is no more addictive than a bowl of rice is.
