IIRC they have a Laser Treatment to get rid of those.

Okay! Thanks!! That's one option. I was thinking of something we could eat or drink, or a pill of some kind.

I tend to keep up on some of the laser tech, it's always been an interest of mine.

some other condition has large dark patches on both of them, mostly around the calf, :-(

Yeah, I have that same problem. Mine kinda look like they are dirty and need a good scrub. I did mean to ask the doctor about them a few weeks ago during a medical, but after he surprised me with a digit test, I kinda for got all about it. I`m hoping to remember when I see him again in June, something about high cholesterol.
I`v been drinking Fenugreek tea and eating the seeds like crazy, its supposed to reduce cholesterol but has this weird side effect.Dodgy
Mine started out about 5 years ago. Right above that bone that sticks out at the side of the ankle, I noticed a tiny red spot on my left leg, about the size of a quarter, and on the right leg in the same spot another red spot about the size of a dime. As I would walk through a very short field of grass on the way to work, wearing shorts, I thought it was just my grass allergy. Eventually it got bigger, now it nearly covers both calves and is growing THROUGH the legs instead of around them! About 2 years ago, I asked my Dr. what it was, she said it was a foot fungus!! Told me to get a lotramin (SP?) at the drug store. I used it for at least a month or two, then had to see my foot Dr. and asked him what it was. I told him she said it was foot fungus. He said, "THAT'S NOT A FOOT FUNGUS!!" And he gave me a bunch of sample bottles of Eucarin for it. Again, I used them until they were gone, a number of months, but it's still here!! The cream did NOTHING for me!! Nobody seems to know what it is!! My mom's visiting nurse looked at my legs and did some research and said it's to do with varicose veins!

Varicose veins!! Sounds like we are just going to have to put up with it ? I know scrubbing it with a stiff brush does not help at all!!

I don't know whether it's the same problem, but for a long time I had problems with water retention, swelling and edema in my legs and feet which has left extensive dark staining which seems to be permanent (this is in line with the advice I received from a wound healing specialist). I once put up a post here asking whether was any way to bleach the stains but got no replies. I think the staining is blood residue in damaged capillaries in the skin, so it is in away related to varicose veins, of which spider veins are one form. Staining apart, my wife says my legs are much better than hers, and they have lost all their hair. The only solution seems to be dark pantyhose. My toenails are so chalky and deformed that I can't paint them anyway.

I have stasis dermatitis, and it sounds like it might be what you girls might be describing:

Does that sound what you have?

The good news is that in my case it has responded fairly well since I started wearing compression socks; the bad news is that the dark patches have faded a little, but my dermatologist said they were probably permanent. Sad

Thanks for the info!! That just MIGHT be it!! I hear that standing in one place a lot causes this, but I was doing that very much when it started. I was doing a LOT of walking, albeit back & forth quite a lot over a 30 foot long area (at work), which is also puzzling, because I'm told walking a lot helps it!! I tend to do a LOT of walking, but it hasn't gotten any better!! THESE days, at my new job, I tend do a LOT of standing/sitting around (which I HATE), so, it's not helping at ALL!! GOTTA get a new job!! Or at least start drumming a lot more, swimming a lot and find a bike to ride a lot.

You're welcome! Smile

Yes, walking is supposed to help, but it didn't appear to do much for me.

You may want to think about wearing some compression socks. The first few ones I tried didn't work well for me; they essentially crushed my toenails (one still hasn't recovered). I've found some lightweight thinner ones that appear to be working; they don't crush my toenails, and they are thin enough that I can wear them under normal socks.
