I got a GOOD song stuck in my head yesterday, "Time In A Glass" by The Fixx!! YUMMY!!!! sadly, though, I was at work at the time and didn't really want it stuck in my head because I'd end up thinking of that dreadful place every time I listened to it!! It's TOO good of a song to have THAT tagged onto it!!!! I'd MUCH rather it remind of the era that it came out, even though some of the stuff going on my life back then wasn't that great. Madonna came back for a minute this afternoon!
Have you ever seen this?

Here's an alternate version I just found, I think it's a promo for the movie. More Frankie than movie.

I have heard of The Fixx but I've not really listened to much of their music. Found it on Youtube. Good song. I can see why it would stick.
I have not seen the Body Double versions of "Relax". Really cool. Dare I say better than original video? lol
This is the footage from TV when I first heard of Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
BBC's Top Of The Pops on 5 January 1984.
The Zang Tuum Tumb (ZTT Records) original banned "Relax" video by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Directed by Bernard Rose.
Released 24 Oct 1983.
The official YouTube channel from ZTT Records. Loads of cool original 80's releases.
ZTT Records Official Youtube Page.
I've worked out how to send YouTube playlists to my TV from my Cromebook without it hanging or cutting out!!!
Just watching Bronski Beat in big screen glory!
Glad to hear your almost cured of Madonna-itis.

I have the second video! It was on a VHS tape of their stuff that I bought at least 15 or 20 years ago.
For a while, I collected Zang Tuum Tumb, but then they started releasing a LOT of pseudo-disco crap I didn't like (808 State, etc.), so, I confined the collection to just Frankie, Art Of Noise and Propaganda.
I only JUST heard the Sex Mix of "Relax" a few days ago. Nothing to write home about. :-/ MAYBE if I had bought it when it was first released, I would've liked it a lot more. It's just the basic rhythm section for 17:00 with sound effects and Holly saying off the wall things. I kept waiting for it to do something, at LEAST go into the damn song itself!! That never happened!
You SHOULD get into the Fixx!! The first album was GREAT, but the second was incredible!! Third was pretty good, too, but they seem to have got less interesting from the 4th onwards until recently. Their producer, Rupert Hine, did some fantastic stuff, too!!

Well I've listened to their album previews on Amazon and Youtube videos. I will have to try and grab the albums.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH 808 STATE? HUMPH!! Lol. I'm joking. I like them but I don't expect anyone else too. Early English acid house is an acquired taste.
I'm a strange beast when it comes to music. I love trance, hard house, old skool, rock, metal, but I also love Dolly Parton, John Denver and Roy Orbison. Some bands I like 95% of their music others 5%. There is not much I won't listen too but I am also quick to decide if I like a track. I admit I've yet to find any Jazz I like. lol
I stumbled over "Men Without Hats - Safety Dance" on Youtube the other day. How the hell I remember this rare, obscure, track I have no idea. I was 10 when it came out and I doubt I've heard it in over 25 years.

808 State just sounds like disco to me. I hate disco, MOST of it!! There's a FEW songs of it that I like a lot. When people ask what kind of music I like, I just say, it'd be easier for me to list the kinds I DON'T like!
I liked that record, too. Reminds me of, "Come On, Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Yeah probably the same for me. Much easier to explain what I don't like. Almost all jazz and 70% blues. Oh and all Enya!
The problem I had with Dexy's Midnight Runners at the time was it was played to death. Radio and TV. Got to the point of being sick of it.
I think they came out in the same year?
The only other song that I remember of theirs was 'Jackie Wilson said'.
Looks like we have managed to get this thread completely off topic! lol

I love Enya! Really nice stuff!!
My hates are disco, hardcore punk, modern metal, modern country and rap (someone let the "C" off of THAT word!!)
I LOVE reggae, but I can only take it for about half an hour.
After about the third song, I've had enough of the blues, too.
Jazz is good, as long as it's not just "mindless" noodling for 20:00 per song.
I never heard any other song by Men Without Hats except for the flip side of this single!
That's all radio is today and for the last 35 years! They just play the same 12 records over and over again all day EVERY day!!!! I have thousands of albums that I used to love, no I don't care if I ever hear them again because radio played the grooves off of them and I NEVER have to play my copies again because they'll ALWAYS be on the radio in the next 5 minutes!!!! I used to want to be a DJ, but, now, unless I can play what I want, you couldn't BEG me to take that job anymore!!!!
That's okay, it's my thread! ;-)

The first time I heard Enya I had a complete and instant dislike to her music. Something about her singing irritates the hell out of me.
No other music I have found so far gives me a similar reaction. lol
Normally with music I can filter it out, ignore it, but with Enya I can't do it. When I was at work and she came onto the radio I would leave the room. The girls tried to explain how brilliant she was but I had to explain all I heard was what I considered a unpleasant wailing noise.
Bless them. They took it personally. I had to point out that I was not saying she was crap. I was just saying I did not like her,
I tend to agree about cRAP. Ooops lol. RAP. Most is rubbish. Some is tolerable. A small amount is good.
I used to like reggae but I seem to have grown out of it now. Single songs in mixed track lists are ok but not more than 2 in a row.
The only song I've ever heard of Men Without Hats is Safety Dance.
I only listen to BBC Radio 4. Described as: Intelligent speech, journalism, comedy, quizzes, poetry, drama, readings, politics, arts, discussion, documentaries, history, life stories, money, science, news and weather.
As you say most other radio stations play the same thing over and over again. I could listen to the local BBC regional radio station, but it has zero quality, intellect and journalism. I'd rather have diarrhea than listen to it. It's much the same thing anyway.
UK commercial radio is worse because of the constant adverts.

Our oldies station here is so repetitive, I have come to the conclusion that "Band On The Run" is the ONLY song Paul McCartney ever recorded!!!! They MUST play it 4 or 5 times a day!!!! Half of my record collection I never have to play ever again because radio burns the shit out of it and I've gotten to the point where I can't stand most of it anymore!! They CLAIM they have millions of records!! Well???? PLAY some of them!!!!!! And, in just 12 days, probably midnight Halloween night, they'll turn into an ALL Christmas music, ALL the time station until midnight Christmas day, when they suddenly stop DEAD and go back to their normal format!! Oh, JOY!!!! :-P

I've been watching a documentary series about the 60's. The episode I am watching (right now, writing this in ad break) is about the British invasion. Loads of great music! The bands influences. Covers and original artists.
Brilliantly drugs and excess have not been mentioned once!!
Shown on CNN
IMDB The Sixties: Season 1, Episode 6 The British Invasion
